A relaxing, fun filled day on the rocks at the beautiful Trustees of Reservations Chapel Brook Sanctuary in Ashfield, just 20 minutes from downtown Northampton.
Enjoy the incredible view of the valley from atop Pony Mountain. Learn about the basics of rock climbing and get started on some beginner level climbs. Advance at your own pace, there are suitable climbs for just about every level of difficulty at this picturesque site. For the extra adventurous, bring your bathing suit and end the day with a ride down the natural rock slide at Chapel Brook, or just cool off in one of the many wading pools. This program requires a 1/4 mile easy/moderate hike to the climbing area. A 1/2 mile hike to the top of Pony Mountain is optional.
Stop by the Brewmaster’s Tavern for a bite to eat on your way home just 10 minutes away in Williamsburg, or head to Northampton for your choice of dozens of top rated restaurants, shopping, and entertainment options.
Recommended to bring:
- sneakers or shoes with good grip (larger boots etc don’t work as well)
- plenty of water
- snacks
- lunch
- sunblock
- bugspray
- hat
- sunglasses
- light pants are better than shorts
Inclement weather Protocol: We will be watching the weather closely prior to the trip. If the trip needs to be postponed due to inclement weather, we will notify you the day before the trip is scheduled to occur. The rain date will be the following day. If you cannot make the rain date, or if we cannot run the trip on the rain day due to more inclement weather, the trip will be rescheduled and you will be entitled to a credit or a full refund, your choice.
Directions
From Points North: I-91, Exit 25 to Rt. 116 North. After 11.2 mi, continue straight ahead onto Williamsburg Rd. (follow Williamsburg Rt. 9 signs). Follow for 2.2 mi. to entrance on right. Pony Mountain is on right side of street; Chapel Falls is on left. Parking areas (12 cars) on both sides of road.
From Points South: I-91, Exit 18 to Rt. 5 North. After approx. 1 mi. turn left onto Rt. 9 West. Follow approx. 9 mi. Slight right onto North Street. Continue on Ashfield Rd./Ashfield Williamsburg Valley Rd. for 6 mi. Continue onto Williamsburg Rd. to entrance.
